December 2005

BR-7 Design Nearing Completion

The detailed design of BR-7's components is nearing completion ready for drawings to be sent out for manufacture before the Christmas break. A full CAD model of the vehicle is currently being assembled and verified to ensure all components meet packaging, interference and cost requirements. This process enables Brunel Racing to predict and solve problems before they occur saving both time and money. BR-7's construction is scheduled to finish by the end of March to allow for testing and driver training time. It is hoped that the early completion time will enhance Brunel Racing's Performance by ensuring reliability, performance and driver skill are all suitably tested and optimised.

Enterpise Rent a Car Show Support for Brunel Racing

After touring the Brunel Racing workshop, seeing the cars and talking to team members Enterprise Rent a Car donated £1000 to help with the construction of Brunel Racing's 2006 vehicle. Brunel Racing would like to convey their gratitude to Enterprise for this generous donation. The money will help to fund improvements to the differential and help towards the development of a supercharger for BR-7.

Brunel Racing Give Presentation to IMechE Members at Nissan Technical Centre

Brunel Racing were invited along with two other Formula Student teams to give a presentation to a regional meeting of the IMeachE at Nissan's Cranfield technical centre. After a tour of the facilities, Brunel Racing's senior team members Murat Ali and James Robertson addressed the packed conference room and gave a brief summary of the teams past achievements, future ambitions and the experience competitors gain.

Learn To Win

October 29th - 30th: Brunel Racing attended the "Learn to Win" event run by the IMeachE at Silverstone race track. The two day event comprised of a day of lectures from top motorsport industry sources such a Renault F1 and Gould Engineering and a day of track testing. Having attended the informative lectures on the Saturday, Brunel Racing implemented changes to its testing procedures and team work ethic for the Sunday test session. Noticeable improvements in both car and team performance were felt throughout the day and much was learnt.

The Italian Job

Brunel Racing took their 2005 car, BR-6, to the Italian Formula ATA competition at FIAT's proving ground near Turin. The car proved to be very reliable finishing all events and achieving 5th place overall:

July 2005

Formula Student UK 2005

Brunel Racing entered their 2005 car BR-6 into Class 1 of the annual UK Formula Student event. A spate of mechanical and electrical failures kept the team busy throughout the weekend and culminated with an electrical failure on the start line of the main endurance race. Despite not running in the main race Brunel Racing scored enough points in other events to finish in 37th place out of a field of around 70 cars.

January 2005

Autosport International - January 13th - 17th 2005

Brunel Racing were present for the four days of AutosportInternational, obtaining some exciting new sponsorship for 2005.Full details of the show, complete with photographs, will be announced in due course.

December 2004

Further Setbacks

Following the differential failure last month, the team have carefullyscruitinised all composite sections of the car and found a stressfracture developing on the rear carbon box, which provides rearsuspension and drive mounts. Therefore the team are now assessing theviability of progressing with BR-5.

November 2004

Brunel Racing Suffer setback in Winter Testing

During the suspension optimisation test session held on 11/11/04 atthe QinetiQ facility, BR-5 suffered a failure of the differentialcarriers. The team had been enjoying a succesful day of dataaquisition, when the incident occured. The components (which werecommended by the design judges at Formula Student 2004) are now beingexamined to understand the failure mode. In the meantime, the team areredesigning them.

Brunel Racing Karting Session

The entire team went on a karting trip to Daytona at Sandown Park on Wednesdayto settle a few driving arguments, head to head.

October 2004

BR-5 at the Brunel Lectures

Brunel Racing were present with BR-5 followingthe Autumn Brunel Lectures. Amongst 300 dignitaries and benefactors,honory graduate and Czech Republic President Václav Klaus showed agenuine interest in the Formula Student project.

BR-5 Displayed

Brunel Racing displayed BR-5 at the annual HSBClectures at Brunel University. The car and the project were wellreceived by all the guests and potential sponsors are arising from theevent.

Formula SAE

Brunel Racing register as car number 105 for the Formula SAE event atthe Silverdome in Pontiac.

September 2004

FSAE-A Event

Regrettably, Brunel Racing have had to pull outof the planned trip to FSAE-A this winter. The decision was madefollowing an incomplete testing programme, and insufficientsponsorship being raised.

July 2004

Formula Student Contest

Following a year of preparation and planning, Brunel Racing entered BR-5 inthe 2004 competition. The team performed well in static judging, reaching thedesign final and finishing 9th overall in static judging (the highest of allnon-runners). The reason for not running has been attributed to worn out, oldengines. The team plan to obtain a new CBR600 F3 engine for the Australian &American contests, however, a new engine partner is currently being sought, tohopefully provide new, reliable engines.

June 2004

Goodwood Festival

The team attends the Goodwood Festival of speed with BR-4. The car receivedplenty of attention from the general public.

BR-5 Complete

BR-5 is completed! The team have three weeks of solid testing planned priorto Formula Student 2004.

Brunel Racing host a successful sponsors day in the impressive Bitlabfacility at Uxbridge Campus. This state of the art building facilitatedimpressive presentations from the principal sponsors, Bertrand and Qinetiq . Team Principals RossBrumwell and Mike Guffogg delivered a presentation to all sponsors on thebenefits of sponsoring Brunel Racing, and gave an insight into how sponsorsare recognized as playing in integral part of the development of BrunelRacing team. The day was unanimously regarded as a success, many industriallinks were forged between sponsors and all sponsors gained further insightinto how Brunel Racing run.
